Topic:       Markland Dam Tour
When:      Friday April 24th from 1 - 3 pm

Where:     Florence, IN

SW Ohio AEE will tour Duke's Markland Hydroelectric Power Station in SE Indiana.  This is the only sizable renewable power plant in the local Duke "fleet".  The plant is located on the Indiana side of the Markland Dam along the Ohio River at River Mile 532 in Florence, Indiana.  
 

Markland Station features three 27,000 KVA turbines capable of producing over 81,000 KW, depending on the flow of the river.  The station's spillway consists of 12 bays each 42 feet high by 100 feet long.  For more info on Markland Dam, visit the following website: www.duke-energy.com/power-plants/hydro/markland.asp

                         

A Board Meeting will follow the tour at Belle Terra Casino.  Non-board members are invited to attend.  Topics to be discussed include 2009 upcoming events and our new chapter website.


Driving Directions

Traveling south from Cincinnati, take I-75/I-71 south into Kentucky.  Take I-71 south as the 2 highways split.  Go about 20 miles to the Warsaw/Sparta Exit for Kentucky Speedway.  Turn right & go 3 miles to U.S. 42.  Turn left & proceed about one mile to the Indiana side.  Park in Duke's parking lot.  We will meet in the lot.
