Topic:  Fracking in Ohio: Technology, Benefits & Opportunities

There have been 457 Utica Shale permits issued in 21 Ohio counties to 22 companies.  187 have been developed. The counties are Ashland, Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Geauga, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes Jefferson, Knox, Mahoning, Medina, Monroe, Muskingum, Noble, Portage, Stark, Trumbull, Tuscarawas, and Wayne.  45 Utica Shale wells are currently in production, without any environmental violations to date.

As Vice President of Operations for the Ohio Oil & Gas Association, Peter MacKenzie is responsible for managing all day-to-day internal operations regarding the Association.  Pete will speak about the technology used to produce oil and gas in Ohio, and about the benefits and job opportunities in this new market.

Mackenzie, a US Army and National Guard Veteran, earned his Geological Sciences B.Sc. degree from Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.  A voracious appetite for field geology has taken Mr. MacKenzie through most of the 50 states, into Canada, culminating with work on Permian and Triassic clastic rocks in the Geologists Range in the Trans-Antarctic Mountains in Antarctica.

Mr. MacKenzie has been successfully directing exploration activities in the Appalachian Basin for oil and natural gas resources for nearly 20 years.  He is a pioneering advocate for the use of 3d seismic and advanced technologies in the Appalachian Basin for the exploitation of exploration-class oil and gas reserves.

Mr. MacKenzie is a member of several Professional Societies, SIPES, AAPG, and AIPG, also member of the Independent Producers Association of America (IPAA).  He is past President of the Eastern Section of the AAPG, Chair of the Board of Governors for the AAPG GeoDC Washington DC Office and Trustee of the Ohio Academy of Science.

Driving Directions

From I-275 in Ohio (north of Cincinnati, west of I-75) depart highway on Exit 36, Mt. Healthy/Hamilton Avenue, Route 127.  Go south toward Mt. Healthy.  Turn left at Waycross Rd.  Travel abt 1 mile to Ameritas / Union Central on the left (north side of road).  Follow signs to park in Visitors Parking area.  Enter building at the Employee/Visitor entrance.  Check-in with security station to get directions inside building.
